"VICTORIA CROSS" PORT SET
RAFFLE - Winner
The draw was carried out at the Team BBQ held at Special Air Service Regiment, Swanbourne, Western Australia on Sunday, 1st September 2002. Drawing the winning ticket was Beryl Smith widow of R.D. 'Sooty' Smith AATTV. To everyone's surprise including mine, my name was drawn as the winner. The Ticket Number was 013, so one has to ask, is number thirteen really an unlucky number. As I had been instrumental in acquiring and donating the VC Port for the raffle, I felt it embarrassing to have won.
I immediately offered the VC Port for auction. President - Tony Thorpe of AATTV WA Branch carried out a short sharp auction with the port going to Roy Chamberlain AATTV Queensland Branch who resides at Ferny Hills, Queensland for $600 (a real bargain at that price, so congratulations, Roy). The money raised has gone into the coffers of AATTV WA Branch and will be used for the benefit of AATTV members of that Branch.
I would like to thank all of you who purchased tickets and rest assured the money has been used to enable the 40th Anniversary Reunion to be the success it has turned out to be.
